The Fruits of Summer

Summer offers up a bounty of lush greenery at wonderful prices. Check with your florist and use "in season" flowers in your bouquet and decor.

~Strawberries are good for much more than eating. Add berries to your centerpieces for a lovely feast for the eyes. (don't use berries for an outdoor table decoration, they attract wasps)

~For an outdoor wedding, frame your walk to the altar with lovely short plastic fencing available at gardening stores instead of a runner. Runners flip and trip attendants while the fencing defines your walk beautifully at a minimum cost.
You can also find wonderful plastic arches which can be decorated with garlands.

~Your summer photo opportunities are limitless. Arrange with a local park or ornamental garden and use their backdrop for your special setting.

~Yes you can have an elegant barbeque! Skewered meats and vegetables, devine salads and broiled scallops or shrimp turn an informal idea into a black tie event.

~This is the most economical time for floral centerpieces. Make your own centerpieces with a block of florists foam, chose stems of pompom mums and asters that will coordinate with your colors.  Add foliage to cover the base and you creativity will be envied!

~ Buy yards of inexpensive colored gauze or netting from your fabric store and use it as bunting for the entry way and the table drapes, add greenery to the netting for an inexpensive yet elegant display.

~ Make greenery garlands for decorating by tying stems to twine-it can be used in many  ways!

~ Buy some florists twine and the ideas are many!  Use a stem of gypsophelia or
baby's breath ($1.00) a stem and wrap it around the twine, insert small rose buds and your flower girls will have gorgeous headpieces!

~To make your own rose ball bouquet, ask your florist to reserve some roses that will be "half opened" the day before your wedding to ensure the fullness this type of nosegay requires.  Purchase them in a "grower's dozen if possible (usually only about 20% higher than a regular dozen and has 25!).  Wrap the stems with lace that matches your colors and add a few leaves!

Summer's bounty can make your imagination the only limit!
