![]() Whether you and your groom compose your own poem or prayer to accompany your vows, or choose a verse from another source, a brief reading can express the special thoughts that you wish to share with your guests. Secular readings can be poetry, lyrics of a song that you both enjoy, inspirational prose or quotes from novels or plays. Some of my favorite secular readings are: by William Shakespeare "Let me not to the marriage of true minds admit impediments. Love is not love which alters when it alteration finds, or bends with the remover to remove: O, no! It is an ever fix'd mark..." by Elizabeth Barrett Browning "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height my soul can reach..." by William Shakespeare "Shall I compare thee to a summers day?" If you are being married in a House of Worship you should check with your clergy member for approval and suggestions before entering any readings into your program. Sometimes even religious readings must be approved as even scripture can have many translations. I Corinthians 13.4-8a "Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it doen not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends." I St. John 4:7-13, Ruth 1:16, Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, and Genesis 2:18-24 and The Seven Blessings from "The New Jewish Wedding" by Anita Diamant. Readings
are not only a wonderful way to personalize your wedding, they are also
a great way to include someone special in your ceremony by giving them
the honor of presenting a reading.
