Bridezel
or Bridezilla?
I've
been a bridesmaid in countless weddings and I've attended countless more.
I've seen brides who bend themselves into a pretzel to accommodate everyone
and I've seen brides who'd give a brigadier general a run for his money.
I think that the perfect bride is someone who's in the middle of these
extremes. The bride who bends herself into knots to please everyone until
she ends up a quivering mess on her special day (Bridezel) or the bride
who bends everyone else into knots to please her (Bridezilla) are both
out there.
To

Dyed
Shoes
Are you
paying for your bridesmaids outfits? If so, you can opt for dyed shoes.
If not, YOU ARE A BRIDEZILLA. Sorry. I know you feel that the wedding party
must be color co-ordinated but at what cost? Dyed shoes are expensive
and will NEVER be worn again.
Are
your bridesmaids wearing an assortment of heels, flats, colors, styles
and shapes? Do you wish they'd all wear white sandals but didn't want them
to think you were being too picky? BRIDEZEL ... you know you are.
Most
of the women who are in your wedding party have black, blue, white, taupe
and brown shoes sitting in their closets in various forms ... You've chosen
a common color and style for everyone and let them decide whether to buy
new or use what they have. BRIDE. :)
From
Southern to Slinky
Do your
9 bridesmaids look like they should be in 9 different weddings? Did you
tell them all that it was ok to wear whatever gowns they already had? Did
you let each of them choose the style and color? YOU'RE A BRIDEZEL. Before
the planning is over, you'll have heel marks on your back.
Did
you find lovely, affordable (under $100. for everything) dresses that everyone
likes? Did you take the different shapes and sizes of your attendants into
consideration when you put your heads together to choose a style or styles?

Is
your idea of wedding perfection 8 bridesmaids in mermaid gowns or southern
belle attire with more undergarments than Miss Victoria has in her closet?
Are your bridesmaids paying for these confections themselves? BRIDEZILLA!!
Countdown
We all
know one of these girls ... she was engaged in the 80's and has been planning
her wedding ever since. Every time you see her, the ONLY thing she talks
about is her wedding. She's become incapable of having a conversation with
anyone unless it revolves around her wedding. If you've forgotten how to
listen to your friends and conversation has become talking about your wedding
and waiting till your friend finishes talking so you can talk about your
wedding ... YOU ARE A BRIDEZILLA.
Discussing
your wedding only 50% of the time? BRIDE :)
Too
shy to bring your wedding up unless someone mentions it first? Letting
everyone plan your special day as though you aren't even there? BRIDEZEL

Got your
wedding list under control? Mostly happy with the distribution and number
of guests? Are you keeping your budget and the budget of whoever might
be helping you out in mind with each additional person you add? BRIDE :)
Is
your dream wedding small and intimate and your real wedding spreading out
of control? Have you forgotten how to say no every time your mother, his
mother, your friend, the bag boy at the grocery store, asks if you have
room for one or 10 more? BRIDEZEL
Are
you having a reception for 12 people and won't make room for the groom's
grandmother who's offered to pay her way? Having a lavish wedding with
ALL the trimmings and 1,000 of your closest friends even though your parents
had to re-mortgage the house to pay for it? BRIDEZILLA!!!

Take
a deep breath and take charge of your wedding. If you're this ambivalent
about the planning for your special day, are you sure you're not just as
ambivalent about your choice of mate? If you also scored 1 BRIDEZILLA,
are you sure that was your own idea and not one thrust on you by a former
or future BRIDEZILLA?
2 or more BRIDEZILLAS:
You know
just what you want and you're not about to consider anyone else's feelings.
This attitude may have gotten you through childhood but it's time to grow
up and learn that the world doesn't revolve around you. That tiara you're
going to be wearing on your wedding day will tarnish just as quickly as
the friendships you're straining today.
4 BRIDES:
Oh come
on .... nobody's that perfect! You need to go back and look carefully at
your answers.

Keep
a tight hold on your compassion and your wedding. One thoughtless act is
all it'll take to turn you into a BRIDEZEL or a (shudder) BRIDEZILLA.

You're
on the right track. There are always going to be things that are important
enough to holler about and things you'll want to back away from and let
others decide. You already know you can't do everything on your own and
if you keep up the attitude you've got here, your marriage will be a true
partnership.
